MARK R. WILSON AWARD
The Mark R. Wilson Award shall be considered to be the highest tribute the Society may pay to an Arts and Science student for valuable and distinguished service to the University in non-athletic extra-curricular activities. Formerly the Arts and Science Undergraduate Award, the award renamed on February 4, 1999 to honour Mark R. Wilson, ArtSci ’99 (Geography & Politics), who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in July of 1998. Mark Wilson was a remarkable student who contributed extensively to Queen’s via his involvement in ASUS (as DSC Communications Coordinator, ASUS Representative to the AMS, and ’99 Year Society Secretary), the Geography DSC, Queen’s Model Parliament, Queen’s Young PCs, and Queen’s Christian Fellowship. Mark’s contributions to the University community were outweighed only by his personal commitment to his friends and family.

The Queen’s Student Alumni Association (QSAA) exists to connect you to your future as alumni. As a student, you are part of the Queen’s community, which includes a network of 134,000 Queen’s alumni in 156 countries around the world.

The QSAA is currently seeking leadership positions for the 2012-13 academic year. These amazing opportunities will focus in the areas of volunteer management, event planning, marketing and communications and networking with Alumni.

QSAA President applications are due this Friday and we are looking for candidates who would be interested in this opportunity to gain real‐world project management, volunteer motivation, event planning and networking. It is a full-year paid position within Alumni Relations and the Office of Advancement.

VP Ambassadors, Giving and Marcomm applications are due on March 9^th.

Silent Auction Is Coming!

Silent Auction will be held from February 6th through February 10th, with booths in BioSci, Mac-Corry, and the Queen’s Centre on February 7th, 8th and 9th with an additional table in Goodes Hall on February 8th. We will also have online bidding all week! All proceeds go to the many charities that the Community Outreach Commission supports and we have lots of awesome prizes from gift bags to restaurant gift certificates to gym passes so come on out!

This year, QISA Dance team will be representing Queen’s University (in collaboration with University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT)) at the North American Culture Show (NACS). This inter-university dance competition will be taking place on February 18th, 2012 in Niagara Falls. What better way to kick off Reading Week ’12 but by supporting Queen’s while having an amazing time doing so!? PFF Community Leadership Program

The PFF Community Leadership Program offers up to $30 000 for 8-12 month Fellowships to Queen’s students who are proactive, leadership-oriented and innovative to work with communities in need in international locations. The objectives of the PFF Community Leadership Program are to:

Support and enhance positive social change within a community in demonstrated need in an international location
To provide successful candidates with a life-changing experience of social value

Program Details
This program primarily seeks to develop leadership skills with projects that take place in international locations. Projects may vary in scope from, for example, conducting health promotion work to changing a country’s education policy. The project must be feasible within the proposed time, budget and knowledge/skills of the Fellow. The project will not require affiliation with a sponsoring or partner organization (although support and collaboration with a local partner is essential). It is also important that applications are focused on the potential on-going sustainability of the project beyond the life of the Fellowship.

It is essential that these pro-active, leadership-oriented applicants have the appropriate training/experience to be able to implement an effective project, and be prepared to cope in potentially challenging, isolated contexts. While it will be considered an asset for applicants to have previous international experience and familiarity with cross-cultural issues, applicants should preferably have had previous experience in volunteer/service-learning opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be 18 years old or older at the time of application
Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Must be either a full-time currently enrolled Queen’s Undergraduate student in their final year who will graduate by summer 2012, or Queen’s Graduate student currently in a full-time Masters or PhD program applying for a sabbatical year or for a post-graduation project (by approval of Graduate Studies and Supervisor.) Please note: this is NOT a Research Fellowship
Must be in good academic standing at time of application
