Women’s Empowerment

The Women’s Empowerment Committee aims to raise funds to support local Kingston Women’s shelters and organizations including Dawn House, Interval House, and Sexual Assault Centre Kingston. The committee further aims to raise awareness of women’s and trans issues that have both global and local ramifications. WEC approaches fundraising and awareness campaigns from a feminist perspective grounded in values of respect, appreciation, individual agency and desire to broaden understandings of feminist intersections with privilege, race, gender, ableism, socio-economic status, etc. Furthermore, WEC endeavors to dispel typical misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding women’s issues and feminism by spreading knowledge and attracting attention through various fundraising and awareness events.
