Hi!

First of all I’d like to apologize for the delayed response. The website doesn’t notify me if people comment and so I didn’t see this post until this morning.

The graduating class typically fundraises money throughout their four years at Queen’s for the ThankQ program and makes a donation at the end of their last year. In the past, not that many year societies did this, because they kept their money to organize future reunions, but it seems to be that over the last 5 years, donating to the ThankQ program has been the trend.

ASUS does have a deal with Course Cram, but we will definitely make it a lot better this coming year. I’m excited about the more things they are offering us, and I am excited to let students know of this excellent service/opportunity.

I am also excited about the international student representative. I really want to see how it turns out and whether it’d be worth pursuing a similar position for the AMS.

Regarding the website, we’ve been having some trouble with the purchase of our domain. The website that you mentioned doesn’t have all of the information because a more accurate and better one has been designed. I think that the website for now will become http://www.myasusorientation.com until we resolve the situation and students can access asusorientation.com in the near future. I will make sure to update a big notification on our website saying these details once we have them. This will be figured out in the next few weeks by the time Frosh Handbooks are mailed out!

There is no office beside the Head Gael’s. That is actually a washroom. I am going to try and get creative and see what it is that I am able to come up with for our Equity office!

Glad to know your life goal was achieved. I look forward to working with you in the coming year. Take care!

The summer is indeed passing by really quickly! In 8 weeks, MCRC and don training starts as well- both exciting and terrifying haha.

Does the graduating class every year donate the money they raise to Queen's and get to pick a "cause"?

I had NO idea that ASUS had a deal of some sort with TestPrep! Definitely should look into advertising that more next year! Lots of first years use Course Cram and many upper-years take MCAT/LSAT/etc prep.

YAY! I cannot wait for the international student position to go through! It would be a wonderful and long-needed step forward :)

The Red Room actually looks more spacious with all these tables in there!

Good job cleaning out your storage room...we've been meaning to clean out the MCRC one but no one wants to take that on :P

I've been using this as the official 2015 website: http://asusorientation.wordpress.com since everything/people seems accurate. Are you guys designing a new one as well or what?

In terms of accesibility, what happens in the office beside the Head Gael's?

WOOHOO! I got a mention. Life Goal #12 achieved :P I, too, strongly believe that the relationship will be great.

Thanks for the post again!

Hi!

Thanks for your comment. I'm glad that you are enjoying the transparency and the detailed posts. I will make sure to continue posting throughout the summer and year as well (although it will be more like my Assembly report).

Regarding the Move-in Day Sale, I'm glad that you like the idea. We have definitely looked into where it would be best to have it so that we are not disturbing in terms of creating more traffic/confusion etc... and that is why we have spoken with different people in the Residence Life Office. Kathleen and I were both able to meet with Chauncey Kennedy and then Kathleen spoke in the phone with Bruce Griffiths to get more feedback on our proposed event so that we do not disturb Residence Life in any manner. I would love to chat with you about how it is that MCRC can help out as well.

In terms of the logistics of the sale, I will be glad to provide you with an explanation once we meet next week because to be completely honest, I do not have the exact information right now since this has only just recently been approved and we now have to figure all of that out. In addition, at the moment we have not given any thought to setting up something on West Campus but it is something that is worth looking into. I am not exactly sure if we will have the man power to be able to have two different sales going on at once (especially when most of Council will be attending the Gael Road Trip) and given that it is the first year that we try this out, it might be a good idea to start things off in one location and quickly expand in subsequent years. If you have any suggestions as to how to deal with this I'd be more than happy to hear them.

Regarding Queen's in the Park, you have to send an email to qitp.asusorientation@gmail.com asking for the application and they will respond to you with 5 questions that you must submit back. I believe the fee is $25 and the money goes towards Shinerama. By the way, have you signed up for Sidewalk Sale as well?!

I don't have the exact date set in stone regarding the sign, but I'm assuming it should be here by the end of the month. If you are lucky enough, it will be here when you drop by next week. Anyways, thanks for your feedback and I look forward to our meeting. All the best!

Hey Rico,

Got a couple of things (as always :P).

First off, I'm absolutely loving the detailed blog posts and transparency! I liked Doug and Robyn as well, but your idea of what a student government should be really pleases me...thank you for that :)

Secondly, the Move-In Day sale: I think that's a great idea and I'm completely behind you on that (in fact, when we meet we can discuss how MCRC can help you out as well, if you'd like :) ). The only thing that I keep coming back to is that the first day is really crazy insane with none of the frosh really knowing what they're doing/where they are, a ton of traffic, etc but I'm sure you guys have already thought of that and I'm curious as to the logistics of the sale but maybe they'll be easier to explain in person, if that's the case...we can talk in a week. Also, I hope ASUS will have something set up on West as well!

Thirdly, where can we find a registration form for Queen's in the Park? I'd like MCRC to do that as well (still waiting on all the execs but I want to have all the info ready before hand anyways)

Fourthly, I can't wait to see the new ASUS sign! When shall it be ready by?

Take care and hope all is well.

Thanks again for all the work you do and the updates :)

Hi Carpelajour,

Thanks for your post and your question. The proposed motion to Senate was about transcript notations in the event that you were asked to withdraw from the university but you decided to appeal the case based on extenuating circumstances etc... and were granted the appeal. What the motion intended to do was to add a notation to the "required to withdraw for x number of years" which stated that the individual appealed the case and was granted the appeal, thus the requirement to withdraw would be waived.

We believe that if a student was granted an appeal because they did have extenuating circumstances, then they shouldn't have that notation in their transcript in the first place and therefore it should be removed in its entirety.

There are many other reasons for why we thought this motion was not beneficial to students as a whole, and thus we decided to refer it back to a committee for further discussion and analysis so that when it does come back, proper discussion takes place and people can be able to have a more informed decision.

I'm glad that you are also excited about the Red Room and the International Student Representative.

Let me know if I was unable to properly clarify the motion (it's a bit complicated to explain), and if I haven't I would be glad to clarify any further questions. Have a great day!
