Congratulations to the Fall Semester recipient of the W. J. Barnes Teaching Excellence Award, Dr. Guy Narbonne! The W. J. Barnes Teaching Excellence Award is considered the highest tribute the Society can pay to an individual for teaching excellence. Dr. Guy Narbonne is a Professor and Queen’s Research Chair in the Department of Geological Sciences interested in Precambrian paleobiology, particularly the early evolution of animals and their ecosystems. He teaches GEOL 107, the History of Life, and GEOL 337, Paleontology and was nominated for the W. J. Barnes Awarde because he is an incredibly captivating speaker who genuinely cares for his students. He also managed to generate an abundance of interest in his GEOL 107 class; it began as a very small class and is now one of the most popular classes in first year sciences. Always available for discussion and easily approachable, Dr. Narbonne is a model professor and ASUS is proud to award him with the highest tribute the Society can bestow upon a professor.

Dr Narbonne the W. J. Barnes Teaching Excellence Award for his outstanding work in his class, GEO 107, for several reasons. Not only is he an incredibly captivating speaker who genuinely cares for his students, but an equally impressive feat is how he managed to generate so much interest in this class. It began very small and  now it is one of the most popular classes in first sciences. Always available for disussion and easily approachable, Narbonne is a model professor. The W. J. Barnes award is the highest tribute that students of the faculty of Arts and Science can bestow upon a professor.
